Yes, despite this inclement weather it's supposed to be Summer !
The 2 Phal Samara pods that were due to be sown both turned out empty and devoid of any seed...that's frustrating.Other pods were successful and some excess seed has been sent to Don Heys ( SWOS ) and Lynda Coles ( Wales Orchid Study Group )
Some wild Vanda sp. seed collected on Martyns latest trip overseas have germinated , only one flask but a generous amount of seed that germinated in only 3 weeks.
The collaboration with Don Heys of the South West Orchid Society has seen Don pleased to announce his first flask of germinated seed which has aroused some interest at the SWOS.Don and Ray are meeting in July to exchange some seedlings. The first of, hopefully, many such exchanges to come.
The Trial of the BOC Orchid Conservation Project ( with Plant Heritage ) has now completed and will soon be open to other Orchid Societies to participate in .I hope that the COS will consider joining it .Devon Orchid Society was one of the Societies involved in the Trial Stage.
If you are interested in supporting the Seed Project ...pollinating one of your plants etc. talk to Ray
Ray offers to sow your seeds for you ...The only thing is you need to store the Flasks .... with , currently some 25 germinated Flasks , and more to sow, he's rapidly running out of space !
